Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
